Full-size pickup trucks are one of the most popular segments of the vehicle market. Americans love the utility and style that pickup trucks offer. For decades, both Ford and Chevy have been huge names in the truck space. Every year they release new models that outdo what came before. The 2022 model year is no different: there is a new Ford F-150, and a new Chevy Silverado 1500. This post is going to compare these two iconic trucks to help Fort Dodge, IA residents figure out which one is the best match for them and their families.

What's under the hood?

Both the 2022 Ford F-150 and the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 have a huge array of different available engines. The Silverado has four choices. Three of them use standard gasoline: the base 2.7L turbo four-cylinder that gets 310 horsepower; the 5.3L V8 that makes 355 ponies; and the 6.2L V8 that outputs 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The fourth option is an inline-six diesel engine that makes 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.

The F-150, for its part, has even more options for Pocahontas drivers to consider. The base engine is a 3.3L V6 that gets 290 ponies. The other options are:

    • a twin-turbocharged 2.7L V6 that gets 325 horsepower
    • a 5.0L V8 engine that makes 400 horsepower
    • twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 that outputs 400 horsepower
    • a 250 horsepower 3.0L V6 diesel engine
    • a 430 horsepower 3.5L twin-turbo V6 hybrid

When it comes to power, the F-150 wins out. The 3.5L twin-turbo hybrid V6 outputs more horsepower than the Silverado's beefiest engine, thanks to its 35 kW electric motor. It will also help Fort Dodge drivers save at the pump!

Interior and Style

While both Ford and Chevy have been making trucks for a long time, Ford is better-known for their design philosophy. Ford actively asks truck drivers what works for them, and what does not. That's why F-150s are available with a fold-down shifter that creates a desk in the front seat: many truck drivers told Ford that their truck acts as their mobile office, and Ford listened.

Ford's excellent design extends beyond the desk. Headrests in new F-150s have speakers in them; the tailgates have rulers stamped on them for when you cut wood on it; and the standard 8.0" touchscreen (that can be upgraded to 12") runs on the Sync 4 software, an innovative system that allows drivers to smoothly use navigation and music features.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 does have a nice cabin. It can be configured in a variety of ways, included a stripped-down Work Truck that has manual seat adjustments and even manual windows. That said, it isn't as innovative as the F-150 - there's no desk, and the F-150 has more available power outlets.

2022 Ford F-150 vs 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500: Conclusion

Both Chevy and Ford have designed good trucks, but the F-150 is truly great. Between the wide array of powerful engines, the slick and innovative interior, and the fact that the F-150 can tow up to 14,000 pounds - vs the Silverado's 13,300 top weight - means that the F-150 is the way to go for Webster City residents to go.
