2023 Ford Ranger vs 2024 Ford Ranger: Crucial Differences

If you’re looking for the perfect mid-size pickup truck that is just the right size, consider the Ford Ranger, a perfect bridge between the smaller Ford Maverick and the larger F-150.
This mid-size pickup is easy to maneuver and boasts a competitive towing capacity with excellent off-road capabilities.

What The 2024 Ford Ranger Offers

The mid-sized Ford Ranger has undergone a total redesign between the 2023 and 2024 models, boasting bold styling on the front end inspired by the F-150. The American version of this truck is fueled by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that you can also find on the 2023 model. If you’re looking for something a little more powerful, there is also an available twin-turbo gasoline-fired V-6 engine that is new to the lineup this year. Both engines come with either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive.

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is looking to be the most powerful version of this mid-size pickup, but there are plenty of good options with the XL, XLT, LARIAT, and Raptor. In 2023, the Ford Ranger was offered with two distinct body styles. In 2024, there is only one available: a crew cab with four full-size doors.

Overall, the cabin on the Ranger has received a huge redesign from 2023, now featuring a vertically-oriented infotainment system similar to the one that you can find in the higher-end trims for the Ford Edge.

Similarly to the 2024 Ford Edge, several of the pickup’s competitors have also undergone recent redesigns, but the 2024 Ford Edge still stands out amongst the pack.

2023 Ford Ranger vs. 2024 Ford Ranger - What’s New for 2024?

There is a lot to be said when it comes to the 2023 Ford Ranger vs. 2024 Ford Ranger. This fifth-generation Ranger is completely redesigned, with all-new features and designs.

While getting a model like the 2023 Ranger might get you a better price, providing excellent value for a fantastic vehicle, the 2024 Ranger offers the newest and most technologically advanced mid-sized truck on the market.

The current truck offers new engine options, including the standard 2.3L turbocharged engine in its base trim and the upgraded 2.7L turbocharged V6 that cranks up to 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Additionally, the infotainment system was redesigned with two touchscreen options: 10.1 or an upgraded 12-inch display with the latest Sync 4A system and additional USB-A and USB-C ports.

The new Ranger’s off-road capability has also been improved upon, with more ground clearance that allows you to tackle even the trickiest terrain. The 2024 Ford Ranger also boasts an impressive terrain management system that adapts to the conditions of the ground, adjusting power delivery, torque bias, and more, based on whether you’re driving on mud, snow, sand, and more.

Engine, Performance, and Capability

Encapsulating the idea of being built Ford Tough, the 2024 Ford Ranger boasts a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that powers out 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque to tackle anything that you throw at it. While this is still the standard engine from the 2023 model, the engine is paired with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and auto start and stop technology that allows drivers to get up to 26 miles per gallon.

The suspension includes a fully independent double A-arm front suspension that uses nitrogen-pressured shocks to keep you and your passengers comfortable while you drive, from the pavement to off-road and more. While two-wheel drive comes standard on the 2024 Ford Ranger, a 4x4 option is also available for upgrade.

Regardless of the engine you choose, the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost or the 2.7L turbocharged V6, the Ranger is rated to tow up to 7,500 lbs. When the four-wheel drive system is equipped, the maximum payload rating drops to 1,711 lbs from the 1,805 on the rear-wheel system.

While the fuel economy rating has not been released yet, it is expected that the new Ranger has a comparable fuel efficiency to the 2023 model.

Interior and Infotainment

The 2024 Ford Ranger has also received an update to the interior cabin. A modern interior on the new model now features an available digital gauge display, a textured dashboard trim, and honeycomb-patterned air vents. Many of the truck’s controls and buttons have been digitized as part of the upgrade and are now a part of the infotainment system.

As you might expect of a midsize truck, there are plenty of interior storage compartments that allow you to keep your truck neat and organized, with everything you need easily on hand. These storage solutions include a hidden upper glovebox, large door cubbies, and storage under the rear seats.

Unlike the 2023 Ford Ranger that offered the SuperCrew crew cab and the SuperCab, the 2024 Ford Ranger only offers the SuperCrew crew cab with four full doors, under-seat storage, and seating for five and their gear.

A large 10.1-inch infotainment display comes standard, but drivers looking for more tech can upgrade to a larger vertically oriented 12.4-inch display. Both systems tun Ford’s latest Sync 4 interface, providing access to all the controls you need to make your ride pleasant and comfortable.

The new controls can even activate a new sone-lighting feature that can turn on lights on the exterior of the vehicle to light up whatever you might need to see in the dark. Additionally, all models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, optional Adaptive Cruise Control can maintain your speed when the road is clear and slow your truck when it detects traffic ahead. The Ranger also comes standard with forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking to help prevent accidents on the road.

The Ranger also comes with more technology on the higher trims or with available packaging, all relatively affordable and worth the cost.
