2023 Toyota RAV4 vs 2023 Toyota Highlander

If you’ve landed on Toyota for your next new crossover SUV, or even if you’re curious about some of the greatest options we’re here to help. We’ll dive into some of the best parts of the 2023 Toyota Highlander and the 2023 RAV4 to help you make a better decision on your next new vehicle purchase. Below, you’ll find information on the engines, gas mileage, interior and more!

Powertrain

Gas prices are sky high right now. Luckily, Toyota has what you need with the 2023 Toyota crossover SUV lineup, there are electrified options galore. Both the Highlander and the RAV4 offer hybrid powertrains and the RAV4 comes in a plug-in hybrid as well. This comes with amazing savings on gas mileage. For comparison, the gas RAV4 makes 32 or 35mpg depending on whether it’s the all wheel drive or front wheel drive model, while the hybrid and plug in hybrid make 40mpg and 84mpge respectively.

This compares favorably to the larger Toyota Highlander, which sports a more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It should be noted that even with gas models, the turbo four will provide a similar experience to a six cylinder engine, with significantly better fuel economy. It makes 24 combined mpg. The hybrid 2023 Highlander makes 36mpg in the city and 35mpg in the highway. While these aren’t great compared to the RAV4, for an SUV of this size, these numbers are amazing. If you want fuel efficiency in a crossover SUV, Toyota is the way to go. Interior

As one might expect with a three row SUV compared to the two row crossover, the Toyota Highlander has a lot more space than the RAV4. Let’s dive into the details. With less space in the overall vehicle, the RAV4 compensates well. Its rear seats fold nearly flat to allow for lots of cargo space between the cabin and the trunk. In addition, there is lots of cubby storage in the RAV4. This leaves the relatively small RAV4’s interior feeling as spacious as possible.

A three row SUV, however, is a different level of spacious. With ample space for eight passengers, you’ll hardly ever complain about needing extra space in the Highlander. Even with all eight passengers in the vehicle, there’s plenty of leg room for all. The trunk has a decent amount of room as well, given that there are three rows in the vehicle.

Both models come with an infotainment display of varying sizes depending on the model, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. Upgraded speaker systems are also available for both the 2023 RAV4 and Highlander.

When it comes to the RAV4 vs Highlander, it’s important to consider that these are two very different vehicles. The extra row of seats, accompanying space, and more powerful motor in the Highlander come at a cost. The RAV4 has better gas mileage as well as a plug in hybrid option in comparison. It really comes down to your needs because both vehicles are great.
