2023 Toyota Sequoia Specs
When it comes to SUVs, purists prefer those on a truck chassis. That is, vehicles that are literally a truck with seats and a longer cabin instead of a bed. The classic, and different body-on-frame construction makes for an excellent towing and off-roading vehicle. It has practical elements too; Many even prefer this style of vehicle during their everyday driving. The market is flooded with vehicles like this, as well as large SUVs that imitate the pure body-on-frame style. When it comes to SUVs built on the frame of a full-sized truck, the Toyota Highlander truly shines. Others on the market can compete in some areas, but can’t compete with the unique engine design, gas-saving fuel economy and long-term reliability. Let’s take a closer look at the 2023 Toyota Highlander and its specs to see what makes it a truly special SUV.
Powertrain
What’s better than one turbo? Two. What’s even better than that? Make it a hybrid. That’s right: all 2023 Toyota Highlanders are not only hybrids, but have two turbos on a powerful 3.4-liter, 6-cylinder motor. This engine, the iForce MAX Hybrid, is only optional on the Tundra built on the same frame. It comes standard in all 2023 Toyota Highlanders. The iForce MAX Hybrid produces 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, making towing (and anything else you can imagine) a breeze. It’s not bad on fuel either, given these stats. It gets 22 combined miles per gallon with two wheel drive and 20 combined miles per gallon with four wheel drive. Given the monstrous power and towing capacity of this SUV, we’re pretty impressed with the Toyota Sequoia’s fuel economy.
Handling and Off-Roading
Trucks are known for being rugged, and the Toyota Sequoia, an SUV on a truck chassis, is no exception. Even with the base model, off-roading is yours for the taking. If you want to really step it up, and spend some serious time in rugged conditions, the TRD Pro Sequoia is for you. The TRD package takes the Sequoia’s off-reading capabilities to the next level. TRD Pro Toyota Sequoias come equipped with larger tire and wheels, a locking rear differential, FOX dampers, and a front skid plate: everything you need to conquer the trail.
Body and Wheels
We’re impressed with this generation of the Toyota Sequoia, which began in 2022. The style is upgraded to look surprisingly more futuristic than other vehicles of its class. The prominent rectangular wheel wells make the Toyota Sequoia look like the truck that it is; we think they look great. This all pairs well with the new, futuristic window design and the spaced badging on the back. All in all, there’s a lot of good to be found in the bodies of this generation of Toyota Sequoias. The 18-inch wheels fit the design well. And remember, you can upgrade to the TRD Pro Sequoia has 20-inch matte wheels that are pleasing to the eye and are a joy behind the wheel.
Interior and Features
One of the most prominent parts of the Toyota Sequoia is the spacious interior. It’s complete with either captain seats or bench seating in the second row (optionally heated and cooled). With the third row, the Sequoia makes for the perfect family or adventure SUV. The Sequoia also has a new touchscreen infotainment system that competes well with other SUVs of its class. There are lots of options depending on trim level for the interior, with trims in wood or chrome, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium stereo system. We think the cabin looks fantastic whatever trim you choose.
